When did you realize you were really in labor?
I woke up at 11:50 pm from a dream that I was having contractions... I soon realized that it wasn't just a dream and that these were real and intense!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The self-doubt that came with transition was really the only "challenge" for me... It helps that I had a precipitous labor and didn't have enough time to really think about things.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
After my first birth, I really focused on trusting my body. I spent a lot of time this pregnancy envisioning a peaceful, easy birth, and I think having my mind in the right place really helped me.

What surprised you about your birth?
My first birth was a 19-hour induction at 41+1, so going into labor on my own was the first surprise. The second (and bigger) surprise was the fact that I had precipitous labor, lasting just over two hours.

Learn several coping strategies because you never really know what you will need in the moment. Also, make sure you feel supported by your care provider, and don't be afraid to change who you are seeing if you're unhappy.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Being on my knees leaned into my couch and rocking my hips was THE BEST for me. Keeping my birth sounds low, instead of screaming, helped too.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I was in complete shock. The first thing I said was "Did I just have a baby in two hours?!"

What did you name your baby, and why?
We named our daughter Rosalie Blair. The names don't have specific meanings for us, but when my older daughter said "Rosie" when we were talking about names, we knew it was right.
