Birth Stories

Erin's Cesarean Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I was put on pitocin at 2 am due to preeclampsia, they broke my water around 7am & I later went into labor.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

I had planned on having a 100% natural birth, but I also knew that might not happen due to me having type 1 diabetes. That said, I ended up having a c section after pushing for 4 hours, so I felt a little defeated. It's hard trying to be all natural when you have circumstances you can't control.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

From the time I found out I was pregnant until the last week of pregnancy my husband & I went to education classes every week. We also did some of our own research, just becoming educated was helpful.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

Labor was much harder than I thought, I don't know if the pitocin affected my decision or not but contractions are no joke so when baby wasn't progressing I opted for an epidural.

  • Try your best to go natural but if you can't that's okay. Sometimes we can't control our circumstances & God might have another plan but everything will turn out okay.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

At first just breathing & squeezing my husband's hand.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    C-Section

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

amazing, words can't properly describe that feeling though

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Try your best to go natural but if you can't that's okay. Sometimes we can't control our circumstances & God might have another plan but everything will turn out okay.
