When did you realize you were really in labor?
I lost my mucus plug early in the morning, and knew labor was just getting started. My first real contractions were walking through sunny Georgetown in Washington DC

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Transition! I started to doubt myself and begged for an epidural to relieve the pain!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Prenatal yoga, chiropractic care, tons of exercise. I was ready to ride the waves of labor because I had trained for them.

What surprised you about your birth?
My own strength!

Open mouth, open vagina! This mantra really helped me relax and let my body open up!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Taking a hot bath, husband applying pressure to my lower back with his forearm during contractions.

Seated on the hospital bed.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
There haven't been any moments in my life more spectacular than the moments I met each of my children.
