Chiropractic Care Helped Sharon During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

When the midwife came to my home and told me I was 8.5-9 cm dialated we thought the discomfort I was having was cramps and pre labour

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

I'm not sure I had such a fantastic labour

I vomited a lot but I would probably have done that if I had drugs

I was really upset having stitches but again this probably would have happened with drugs

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I think there was so many things that helped me

I had been getting chiropractic care to open up my hips and encouraged baby inideal position

Hired a doula and took her hypno birthing classes

    Used midwife instead of on

Followed natural mamma YouTube and web site

Read as many birthing books I could mostly on positive birthing stories and natural birthing educators but also learned about pain management and medical birthing books,
Drank red raspberry leaf tea, ate dates, used homeopath remedies
Prenatal yoga, walked lots near the end

Used a Epi no tool to prepare my body

Used a Elle tens machine for pain management really helped for the car ride to the hospital
Used evening prim rose oil, used essential oils

Prayer and excepting that the process was out of my control

I truly believe the saying that labour is like a marathon and women need to prepare for the event.
I think all the things I did to prepare helped in making my labour the experience I had hoped for or very close to my birth plan.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

When my water broke there was meconium in the fluid even though she was 3 days early.

I was surprised where my tears were I had assumed that the perineal was the only place that a women would tear or have damage from birth but that was not the case with me .

I own a hair salon and for 9 months I had heard ever horrible birth story there ever was people for some reason like to share horrible experiences but I a, thrilled to report and happy to share my story that I had a fantastic birth

I also felt really amazing after birth even 30 min after I had no pain I was well iced

  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Tens machine for sure!

I had practiced breathing techniques from hypno birthing but I really didn't get to use them as I was so dehydrated from all the vomiting it was difficult to breath I felt like my mouth was cracking from being so dry.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Unfortunately I was on the hospital bed on my back since I needed to be monitored and my baby heart rate was dropping during contractions.

It also happened so fast total of 5 hours start to finish and we were in the parking lot at the hospital 30 min later our baby was born we were home 3 hours later with so much joy and love it was unbelievable .

My birth plan I wanted to deliver in the birth tub but that didn't happen because of the fast delivery and meconium.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Amazing my heart is sill so full of love!

It was especially emotional for my husband and I as we struggled for years with infertility and had suffered with a miscarriage.
