When did you realize you were really in labor?
I wasn't sure until I went into the hospital in the middle of the night and one of my good friends who was a nurse there checked me in and said, "Yes you ARE in labor!"

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
With my first, the most challenging thing was not knowing what to expect. After your first baby, you at least have a previous birth experience to go by.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I researched, took a class, and read a lot of books. I became as informed as I could be. I was prepared!

What surprised you about your birth?
I mentally prepared myself for a long painful labor, but it ended up being quick (6.5 hours) and not as painful as I had imagined.

While in labor, focus on the fact your body is doing what it is "supposed" to. This reassurance will help you relax and not be afraid.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
All I did with my first baby was breathe through the contractions, focused relaxation, and rocking in a rocking chair. Then it was already time to push! But there are MANY options here!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Try not to listen to other people's negative stories. Focus on the people you talk to who are positive. And prepare with knowledge as much as you can! While in labor, focus on the fact your body is doing what it is "supposed" to. This reassurance will help you relax and not be afraid.
