When did you realize you were really in labor?
I hadn't felt my baby kick Friday morning, June 9th. I was 39 weeks and 1 day. I drank some water, ate some food and pushed my belly to try and agitate my baby. He still hadn't moved around after 45 mins., so I began to worry and told my husband that we needed to go to the hospital. The hospital we went to was not where we had registered, our registered hospital was an hour away so we went to the nearest hospital. They hooked me up to the heartbeat monitor an his heartbeat was strong which gave me peace of mind. They then decided to do an ultrasound which showed lowed amniotic fluid. They decided it was a good idea to send me to my registered hospital to be induced. I was so excited, I was ready for my baby to be in my arms already! I got to the hospital by ambulance and was checked in right away. They began to induce me, which took hours before I reached 4cms, then they finally broke my water. Once they broke my water I began to feel awful contractions and I knew I needed an epidural right away. Getting an epidural was not the hard part, it was the positioning and the contractions that made getting an epidural difficult. After many brutal hours I realized I was in labor when I felt I needed to push and couldn't help but push! So they checked me and I was at 7 cm! They checked me again after about and hour and a half and I was at 10cm and it was go time! I was sooooo ready to push this baby out and feel better again! Pushing my baby out only took me 20 mins! I had my baby on Sunday the 11th and 10:13am! Perfect 8lb7oz 21"long

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
What does this question even mean? Natural as in pushing out of my vagina or natural as in no pain medication? I certainly did not go natural if it means the latter! I had 2 epidurals, the first one stopped working after so many hours!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I didn't do anything to prepare for childbirth, how can you even truly prepare for something as difficult as childbirth? I knew that breathing was important so I just breathed heavily and screamed a ton!
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How difficult it was...I honestly was asking to have a C-Section! I am so thankful in hindsight that I didn't, but man was I ready to be out of pain!

Do what works for you.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Epidural worked for a while, but it came out and I had to get a new one placed! The second epidural only lasted an hour and then the pain came back so fiercely that I just cried and moaned.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
laying on my back
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Amazing of course! Nothing in this world compares to it.
-
What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Do what works for you.
