When did you realize you were really in labor?
At 4am on Sunday September 4th I woke up wondering why I couldn't feel my baby moving. I called the doctor because I was feeling paranoid and also texted my doula. As I was on the phone with the doctor I felt my first contraction.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Not knowing how painful it would be for me due to a couple things going on. Despite the extreme pain, I went 16 hours before opting for an epidural. Also, it was challenging to think I may not deliver naturally despite my plan to. I ended up having to have a C section due to the inability to push my baby past my pelvis.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Breathing exercises, healthy diet with natural supplements, homeopathics and essential oils. I believe all that kept me healthy and calm during what would be described as a very rough labor and attempted delivery.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
The coupling contractions I experienced. I was always told and read that you get a break between contractions, which I rarely did. I was also surprised that I couldn't deliver naturally but am okay with it now and just happy and blessed my baby boy came into this world healthy and happy.

Despite not being able to deliver naturally, I know I did everything I could and put forth a huge effort and can't have any regrets. I know that being healthy and calm helped my baby remain healthy and that's all that matters. We only have so much control and I knew that I couldn't control the issues I ran into and that C section was the only option.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Hot shower and baths. Not laying down. Laboring standing, walking or on the exercise ball.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
Didn't. Had a C section unexpectedly.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Absolutely amazing. The best moment of my life.
