When did you realize you were really in labor?
On my anniversary, my husband and I returned home from dinner and I nauseated. I decided to lie down and then began cramping. My husband and I called the midwife who assured us it was probably just me overdoing it so we took a walk. We got 2 blocks from the house and I vomited and then started cramping worse. Then I knew... Our son was on the way!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I think the most challenging thing about going natural is living in a society where it's considered almost crazy. Everyone questions every decision you make and if you aren't knowledgable and sure about your decision, it can make you quite fearful. Everyone always wants to share their personal horror story in an effort to get you to change your mind.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Pray!!! I wrote down lots of scripture. I read Supernatural Childbirth and Ina Mays guide to Childbirth. I told myself over and over how I was created to be fruitful and multiply and that it shouldn't scare me. I leaned heavenly on 1 John 4:18, there is no fear in perfect love! And I knew my Father in heaven loved me perfectly when he created me and my little one :)

What surprised you about your birth?
Most surprising was the urge to push. Your body just kind of takes over without your help! It's amazing!

No matter what anyone else says, you can do this! You don't know your own strength but believe me, you are made tough as nails!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I always thought those breathing classes were so silly but OH BOY! Breathing deeply in and out was the most helpful for me. Strong runner ups were counter pressure by my husband for my back labor, sitting in warm water and praying.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I delivered my son sitting on a birthing stool. Most empowering experience ever!

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I think I was awestruck haha. He was much smaller than I had expected when I looked down at my very large tummy.
