When did you realize you were really in labor?
I realized I was in labor pretty early on. I could tell something felt different. Then with each contraction they became more and more intense.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
My labor was about 3.5 days long. Going natural meant I really had to focus and push through a lot of intense contractions and wait for my body to dilate and get to transition and pushing phase. The most intervention I had was the breaking of my sac to try and get things going because I was reaching complete exhaustion and being transferred to a hospital.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
This class and hiring a doula! I would not have made it through my birth without my doula.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How long it was. I imagined it being textbook but my birth ended up being a whole different scenario.
Pushing was also not what I imagined. My body kind of took over and did what it needed to do, it was like my mind took a backseat.
-
Because if this class I knew what hurdles I would be facing. I could better track what phase of labor and birth I was in.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
My doula used a lot of counter pressure! That seemed to be the best relief during labor contractions.
Also, the tub and shower got me through the end even though I think it really slowed things down for me.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I delivered in a somewhat upright sitting position in a tub. I got my water birth thankfully!
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Complete euphoria. I had so many staff and people around me at the end of my birth and the only thing that mattered was my baby and I. I loved it.

How did the Mama Natural Birth Class help you in your childbirth?
Because if this class I knew what hurdles I would be facing. I could better track what phase of labor and birth I was in. This class also recommended a doula and I'm so glad it did! I had no idea the benefit or importance.
Thank you so much for the guidance and education!
