When did you realize you were really in labor?
I had a scheduled induction at 39 weeks due to baby being on the large side, gestational diabetes, and previous shoulder dystocia.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Knowing it was going to get worse before it got better!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Mostly just knowing my body was made for this and being well informed about the process of birth.

What surprised you about your birth?
That I was at 7cm for so long. In reality it was only about 1 1/2 hours between 7cm and 10cm, but with the last I went from 7-10 in 15 minutes!

Research! Prepare yourself with information and be confident in your God given ability to give birth. But remember what a blessing medical procedures can be when necessary and don't blame yourself if things don't go as planned.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
The jet tub was WONDERFUL! I didn't want to get out because I knew the pain would be worse when I did, but I also wanted to stand and walk to speed things up.

What position did you end up delivering in?
Partially reclined, but flat on my back with my knees way back for the last bit when his shoulders were stuck so they could get him out.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Such a relief! But a little scary. He was a little blue from being stuck, and didn't cry for a minute or so.
