When did you realize you were really in labor?
I visited the midwife for my 41 week appoinment only to discover that I was already 9 centimeters dialated. She performed a membrane sweep and within 2 hours pre-labor contractions started.

The knowing looks and comments from concerned people about a natural home birth.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Being mentally prepared for what was going to happen but not setting my heart or expectations on exactly how it would all take place. Trying to be open to the spontaneity and necessity of the occasion and each moment.

What surprised you about your birth?
How different it was from my first birth. My first was 3 weeks early and this little guy arrived 1 well after his due date and the actual birth was much different as well as my mental awareness during the whole process.

All said and done labor is short compared to how long you have carried this baby inside of you and long you will get to carry him in your arms!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Trying to both breath and relax both during and in between contractions.

What position did you end up delivering in?
Laying on my side on my bed.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Relief that pregnancy and labor were over and overwhelming love and awe at this human being that had been growing in me for over 9 months!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
You go Momma! You can do anything you set your mind to.
All said and done labor is short compared to how long you have carried this baby inside of you and long you will get to carry him in your arms!
