When did you realize you were really in labor?
I had to be induced due to high blood pressure. This was NOT in my plan, since I wanted a natural birth center birth. We went to the hospital and I was induced at 6pm, started active labor at 9:30pm and my daughter was born at 10:58pm.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing for me about going natural was not knowing how long it was going to be.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
My husband and I attending Hypnobirthing birth classes. Plus, we hired a Doula and she was invaluable!
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised with how fast my birth went.

I feel the best piece of advice I could give is to hire a Doula, and try not to let other people tell you their birth stories. Also don't watch media births (Hollywood has it all wrong). So many times these births are 'scary' or 'painful' images. I believe pain is a mindset, and if you have it in your mind that it will be unbearable, it will. Likewise, the opposite is true, if you are realistic with your expectations, you can do anything!
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Deep breathing and having my husband and Doula press on my hips during waves.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I ended up delivering on my back. (Again, not in my plan, but she came so quickly I wasn't really feeling like I could get in a squatting position.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Blissful!
