When did you realize you were really in labor?
I didn't really accept or believe I was in labor until I hit transition, I started shaking and crying! Up until that point I assumed the contractions would stop like they had every night before that.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing is not knowing when the pain or intensity will end and accepting each contraction anyways without fear. You have to leave doubt behind and believe that you ARE strong enough.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I took Bradley childbirth classes with my first so I felt prepared in that sense, this time I also decided to remain very active and did cross-fit my entire pregnancy which helped immensely! I stayed strong and confident in my body's ability to accomplish amazing things!
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I was the most surprised about how fast it was and how "in control" I felt. My first labor was almost 20 hours, this one was just over 5! With my first, I ended up delivering on my back and pushed for 6 hours. This time I remained standing and my daughter was born in 2 hard pushes! Both were born naturally but I knew this time that I wanted to do things differently and I'm really happy with the outcome!

Educate yourself!!! It's to vital to know your "why". Once I learned about all the interventions and the potential affects, I couldn't let those things even be an option.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Counter pressure with two fists on my lower back was amazing. I have had back labor with both babies, this time I had my husband or my friend apply hard pressure to my back and it took the pain away and redirected my attention, I could literally feel myself dilating!

What position did you end up delivering in?
Half standing, half squatting.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It felt amazing! And a bit surprising honestly, she was born so fast, we were in shock!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
