  1. We named our daughter Virginia (Rebekah) for so many reasons.
    1. Virginia has always made me think of a beautiful maiden and it is an old classic Roman name meaning just that.
    2. It”s root is from the “Latin” Virgo; my husband, father and brother are virgos so that with my first name as her second we thought was very witty.
    3. Virginia my beautiful daughter was born in the State of Virginia at the University of Virginia hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia.
4.. My husband and I both went to the University of Virginia U.Va. Or Virginia) and I was attending undergrad there when she was born; we dressed her in clothing with U.Va. Colors and logos and hoped she’d go to Virginia. She didn’t. — we moved to Richmond, Va. and she attended the Virginia Commonwealth University; although still a
    “Virginia” school.

  2. The reason why i named my daughter virginia is because all my family names relate to the state her name is virgina united states

  3. It’s her great grandmas name, we like that it can be shortened to Ginny

  4. My husband chose the name Virginia because he’s from there (the state), and it’s a very special place for us. I loved the name as well because it’s an old, classic name that you just don’t hear often.

  5. My name is Virginia I was named after my
grandmother I love my name now as an adult but not so much when I was a child my name was different from everyone I could never find my name written on anything when I would go shopping I never ran in to anything kids with my name and now I still can’t find my name on anything and I have only ran into someone with my name 2 times in 45 year but it makes me different now and I love it now

    • I completely relate to everything you shared. It meant a lot to me that someone else gets it. Thank you

    • When I started reading this I thought “when did I post this comment?” Exactly the same as me..named after my grandma and everything else you said. I copped a lot of flack for my name growing up…kids are cruel.and also some adults (I still get the odd “oh…sounds like vagina” comments from grown humans ?) but I love my name. It’s different and very uncommon here in Australia.

  6. Virginia is named after a grandmother on both sides of our family. We love that this is an established name and also a place. People will know how to spell it. 🙂 We also love the nickname Ginny, which is what we’ve decided to call her.
