We are both Muslim and “Seraj” means “source of light” and it often appears in the Quran as referring to the sun. It’s also often paired with the word “Nour” (meaning “light”) which refers to the reflective light of the moon. This is why we chose this name for our daughter. The only problem we’ve seen so far is that we need to clarify to people that haven’t seen her that it’s a girl and not a boy, since “Nour” is a unisex name, but we aren’t too bothered by it.
