Share Your Thoughts 3 Comments D May 2 at 7:47 am Her nickname! Reply Lora Nov 17 at 11:53 am Lora, in my particular case, is not a shortened form of anything. My grandmother, JoAnn, thought it would be cute to name me Lora from rearranging the letters in my father’s name, Arlo. I’ve never gotten offended, irritated, or bothered by those that would get my name wrong in the sense of it commonly being spelled Laura. I did however find it somewhat bothersome when people would use Lori, as that is a different sound & name altogether. I’d get especially irritated if I’d have to correct one person who would keep with using Lori. In the former equation of Lora/Laura, I felt as though that was an innocent mishap. In the latter two equations Lora/Lori, I felt as that was less of a mishap and more of an ,”I don’t care what your name is”, hence feeling a tad on the disrespectful side especially after repeated instances. Reply Lora Aug 8 at 3:26 pm Lora is NOT a short form of Laura at all. There is a common misconception that these two names are related or interchangeable when in fact Lora is the short name for Leonora, Lenora, and even rooted to Eleanor. Lora is not related to Laura. Don’t call Lora “Laura” – we don’t like it. Lora is NOT Laura. Spelling, pronunciation, meaning, root names – all different.
