Everyone calls her Bea already. The biggest downside is that lots of people, from co-workers to NICU nurses, immediately called her Beatrix Lestrange. It’s not my favorite thing to have my newborn daughter associated with a psychopathic Harry Potter character. Reply Critley May 19 at 8:45 am We chose to name our baby Beatrix for a few reasons. One, Beatrix shares the same Latin root as Betty, which was my grandmother’s name. It also means blessed traveler and also is the name of one of my favorite children’s book authors (Beatrix Potter). Reply Melissa Dec 23 at 3:34 pm We chose Beatrix because we wanted a vintage/classic name that would go well with our other daughter Clementine’s name. We liked Beatrice initially but then opted for a little more kick and uniqueness with using the variation of the name. Reply Dragana Aug 3 at 11:56 pm I got the name from the kill bill movies. I think it’s a powerful message of you can do anything you set your mind to. (We will keep the killing parts out of it obviously.) But the overall fact that she overcame a coma and being paralyzed because she had the will to do it. Reply Alyssa Apr 13 at 12:16 pm Initially I didn’t like it and thought it was too “out there”. It’s uniqueness grew on me, though. I’m drawn to classic/older names, especially ones that are just a tad off the mainstream or that have a particular ring to them. Reply Abigail Apr 13 at 11:52 am Loved the name Beatrix – it’s got a “vintage” feel but still contemporary. We learned all about what a bad ass lady Beatrix Potter was (author, scientist, artist, etc) and it sealed the deal!
