We were also looking for a name that started with an “A” because we wanted her to have the same initials as myself (if it were a boy his initials would have been the same as my husbands). The last aspect to the name choice was a family influence, where my mother-on-law’s name is Alwylene, derived from her fathers’ name, Alwyn. Alwyn in Afrikaans (one of our main languages in South Africa) translates to “Aloe” in English. So, that is how we got to the name, and because the Aloe plant by nature is resilient and healing, we thought that would be a beautiful name for our little girl.
