I didn’t like this name as a child because it wasn’t so common. You know, as a child you want to be like the others, part of a group. And the name was rare, in the beginning of the fifties. And nowadays even more. But I love my name now. And the several meanings in different languages and cultures. It’s also easy to spell and short. I don’t need any nicknames. I’m satisfied with my name AILA. Reply Mama Amanda Sep 30 at 5:05 pm Aila has 2 generations of history on my husbands side of the family. The first time I heard it, I absolutely fell in love! The meaning of the name is “Bearer of light” and/or “From the strong place”…which pretty much made my mind on choosing this name. It’s so unique and beautiful to say. ? Reply Fiona Jun 18 at 3:44 pm It’s my daughters name and i just love how uncommon it is. We pronounce her name as A-La ?
