Xavier Name Meaning

An exciting name with electric energy, Xavier has steadily risen to become a regular on the charts. The original X-marks-the-spot choice when it came to boy names, Xavier has plenty of history over his similar friend Xander.

Meaning “new house”, Xavier is a great choice for a bouncing baby boy as each new life is a new foundation for a family. With the precious nickname of Xavi, Xavier can easily be shortened for parents looking to play down his serious side in childhood.

It may not be obvious, but Xavier is also a religious pick, its use originally inspired by Saint Francis Xavier, the patron saint of missionaries. Saint Francis Xavier shunned a life of privilege, choosing to devote his life to spreading the word of God and caring for those in need.

Also appearing less commonly as Xzavier and Zavier, Xavier has several variants to consider as well like Xaviero and Alexavier. Each has its own appeal, though the classic Xavier is the most popular by far.

Xavier may have a unique look, but he’s become popular enough to avoid spelling and pronunciation issues that some trendier picks may encounter. He’s unmistakably a cool name, one with an enviable sound and styling.

  1. My sweet Boaz Xavier passed from my womb where he was being knit to the arms of Jesus 4-22-2017. I didn’t lose any part of the pregnancy until 5-12 and 5-13. He is always with me because My Father in Heaven showed me tonight that his name means strength of the new house. I was baptized today after many, many years of sexual and other trauma. This little boy prepared me to be all that I am to be. Through my Saviour his life will always propel me forward to share the hope that is found in Christ.

  2. We wanted a name that’s as not common. After going through so many boys names, my step son liked this one out of a few that my boyfriend picked out. My boyfriend liked it & I agreed it was a nice uncommon name. We picked it right before the baby shower & we had the baby shower a month before the baby was due. We were still picking his middle
name after I gave birth to him in the hospital. I picked out the middle name to go with Xavier. The only thing I dislike about the name is that after I found out some people pronounce the name as a J sound. Which I know it is spelled like this Javier.

  3. Xavier Malachi is my sons never given me a problem in our whole life. I wish I was a better mother to such a kind, wonderful, impactful, wise soul. I would never change his name for the life of me.

  4. Bad name, would not recommend

  5. My second sons name! Loved Xavier Rhett when I was pregnant with him

  6. My sons name is Xavier Alexander. He is now 15 and a varsity quarterback. We all call him the Xman. I had a dream that an angel told me his name shall be Xavier Alexander. In my dream (I was only 7 weeks pregnant by the way at the time) he was a blonde hair blue hair boy. After we found out it was a boy. We decided we had to go with the name. Since it was an angel that told us. Wouldn’t you know, he turned out to be a blonde hair blue-eyed boy! Any who I just wanted to share. I love the name Xavier and one day this boy will change the world. Or be famous I am not sure what the angel was getting at. Oh by the way I’m a medium so I don’t normally get visions for myself just others. So it’s pretty cool that an angel came to me to choose my child’s name. If you’re thinking about the name Xavier I strongly recommend support it. My Xavier is so handsome, loving and his name goes so well with that type of personality. Everyone tells me how much they love his name. It’s really not that common too.

  7. I feel it’s a very strong and unique name. I went through a lot this pregnancy including 2 emergency surgeries I had at 14 weeks pregnant. They told me I could possibly lose him due to the anesthesia and/or surgery. We had 2 surgeries within 5 days. So making it through that a strong name was fitting for a strong baby. My daughter was the main to pick that name out of the ones we had to choose from.

  8. I’ve always liked the name and knew it’d be the right name for them.

  9. We chose this name because all the other names were rejected.

  10. Love the name Xavier. Sounds strong & impactful.

  11. The name Xavier true origin is Basque (which is in Spain but not Spanish ). The language is very unique and baffles linguists to its origin..

To pronounce it you say….”char…..bee….air” as the ‘x’ is pronounced a little like a cross between the Ch in Church and the Sh in shuttle . The Basque language pronounced the V as a B.

Other cultures Including the French and Spanish, which both border the basque region took in the name much later with the popularity of St Francis Xavier.
