Wyatt Name Meaning

Wyatt is a name of contrasts, his soft sound a stark opposite of his strong meaning of “brave in battle.” A derivative of the medieval Wyot, Wyatt was originally a surname before being used as a given name.

His popularity has been a wild ride in the U.S, rising and falling throughout the years until spiking in recently with his use in celebrity baby name circles. He may be rising, but he remains unphased, avoiding the trendy label thanks to his vintage roots.

Wyatt has a rugged feel to him, wearing well from a boy’s days riding bikes with friends to his adult life of business and beyond. He has the old-school vibes of Wallace or Willy with a modern edge that fits in well with Cade and Zander. He also has the cool -tt ending found in Elliott and Emmett, two stunners that share his old man chic style. History buffs and adventurers may also love his association with Wyatt Earp, the lawnman involved in the cowboy showdown at the O.K. Corral.

The name also has the added bonus of being relatively nickname-free, a trait beloved by some parents. For those who are looking for a shortened version, there’s always the adorable Wy. Similar names to Wyatt include Asher, Zeke, and Calder.

  1. We love that it’s a strong cowboy name. It’s classic and not too weird.

  2. Wyatt means brave and strong.

  3. We wanted something not common but not outlandish. We had some other names picked and we just thought Wyatt sounded the best for our family.

    • Hi mom I love you!

  4. Personal

  5. Name meaning:
    Wyatt: Brave Warrior
    Malachi: Messenger of God
“One who is a brave warrior who will speak the truth of God with strength and courage, for he knows God is always with him.”

Birth Verse: Joshua 1:9 (NIV) “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

We wanted a strong manly name with great meaning. Meaning of a name is like speaking it over them for their future. We pray he would lie what his name means.

  6. My husband and I chose to name our baby Wyatt Ray.
Wyatt, after a little boy I used to work with and adored, Ray after his grandad that passed 10 years before he and I even met.
I also looked into the meanings of the names, because no matter how cool a name sounds, I don’t want to give my child a cool sounding name that has a weird meaning (example, Reba means fish).
Wyatt means brave at war, and Ray means protection/sunbeam. Little one wound up arriving via emergency c-section and is currently spending some time in the NICU…so I’d say we chose a good name for what he’s fighting through <3

  7. He is my little southern bell. Patrick is his middle name. I had a hard time getting pregnant, and he was a Trooper in the womb and coming out, so I think the meaning of “brave in battle” suits him. My husband, Patrick, (Where he gets his middle name!) is an officer so if he ever wants to join the army like his Dad he will have a strong name to support him. Overall I love the name, I also love his middle name, he has the same twinkle in his eyes like his Dad.

  8. Wyatt is now my middle kiddo. We were looking for an historical name from an historical figure we liked.

  9. Its been one of my favorite boys names since I was a kid. Its from my favorite tv show charmed.
Wyatt is such a cuddle bug

  10. We wanted a strong name for our firstborn. We decided on Wyatt because we like how it sounded but also the meaning is “brave, warrior”. A good solid strong name.

  11. His dad picked it because it was a name on his favorite show and and I loved it!

  12. I chose Wyatt because it means little warrior and our baby was born underweight. But he gained weight like crazy and is now thriving! He is our little warrior!

  13. My brother & aunt helped me pick out the name wyatt.

  14. Loved the strength and cowboy feel of the name

  15. We chose the name Wyatt in honor of my husbands friend. His wife was 7 months pregnant with a little boy, she ended up getting hit by a drunk driver and getting killed before the little one was born. We are honoring our friend and their baby worth the same name!

  16. Wyatt is my maiden name and I’ve always known that that was what I would name my first born son.

  17. I’ve always loved the movies tombstone and Wyatt Earp so when I looked the meaning up I knew that’s what name I wanted it means warrior.

  18. Meaning little warrior. This little guy is definitely a little warrior and Matthew his middle name is a gift from God so wyatt is a perfect match

  19. I did not find out the gender of Wyatt until he was born. So we both settled on the name Payton for a girl and for a boy I really like Dalton and my husband hated it and he liked the name Jaxx and I couldn’t stand it so it came to the day my baby boy was born and we still did not have a name until the next day we both agreed on the name Wyatt Owen finally! My poor boy was nameless for his first moments of life ?

  20. I always loved the name

  21. I just always loved the name Wyatt

  22. I picked it after the baby from charmed.

  23. He is named after Wyatt Erp…

  24. From the moment we knew we were having a baby his name is Wyatt

we did not know if we were having a boy or a girl but it just felt right

like we knew he was going to be the Lil man that he is

  25. I decided to him wyatt after I heard it on charmed which was my favorite show growing up. I also named him wyatt cause I wanted an old fashion name that u dont hear much anymore.

  26. We both love Wyatt Earp. It is a simple, strong name. And we could agree! Lol

  27. Wyatt is a name I have liked since I was a young girl. I like the name Wyatt because it is a strong boy/male sounding name me. What I don’t like is that Wyatt Earp is about the only Wyatt many people think of when they hear the name.

  28. I chose this after wyatt earp.
I love that his name fits him.
Hes a great kid and him being my oldest and the protector I feel it fits

  29. I wanted a name that didn’t necessarily have a nickname (i.e. Zach for Zachary) and has more of a southern feel to it. We found the name in a baby book.

  30. Sons name is Wyatt Cash. We loved it, thought it sounded western, and love the movie Tombstone. I regret not allowing my son to choose his own name
