I wanted a Jr., (Ricardo, Jr.), since he was going to be our first born son. My husband didn’t want that. So I asked him, “What about Ritchie?”, it’s a version of Ricardo and he doesn’t have to have “Jr.”… My husband agreed to Ritchie instead of Ricardo, Jr.. Also, my husband and I have a favorite movie called La Bamba, it’s about a singer who passed away young, that singer’s name was Ricardo Valenzuela, but his stage name was Ritchie Valens. This singer sang a song called “We Belong Together”, “your mine and we belong together yes we belong together for eternity….”, sweet song, and it’s my husbands and mine song, you should look it up, YouTube it. It’s also one of a few movies that will make my husband cry. So we kind of named our son after that too. Also Ricardo and Ritchie both mean Brave, Powerful, Ruler, Leader. Interestingly, both their characters are somewhat like the description of their name’s meaning. I wouldn’t have my son’s name any different. We are proud of it and him and enjoy hearing others say his name ??. Reply Corabelle Jun 16 at 10:12 am My husband’s name is Ricardo. I wanted a Ricardo Jr., but he didn’t want that. He said his older brother who is a Jr and his dad always struggled with paper work, so my husband doesn’t want to go through that either. Since I really wanted our son to be named after his dad, but his dad didn’t want that the closet name to Ricardo that I liked was Ritchie. My husband liked it too so we compromised. I could give him that name if he could choose the middle name. So he chose Blaz for the middle name. It was his late uncle’s name. Also there is an older movie called La Bamba about a young singer, Ricardo Valenzuela, aka Ritchie Valenz. It’s both our favorite movie and one of the few movies that makes my husband cry (the ending). One of the songs Ritchie Valenz plays is called You’re Mine, or We Belong Together and it’s “our” song since high school. So our son became Ritchie Blaz since the womb and we love his name and wouldn’t have it any other way :-)!
