My husband and I always liked the biblical and prophetic symbolism & meanings linked to this majestic animal- so we were thinking of names like Judah, Leo, etc. However, none of those names felt right for our LO. Our birth center was located on a street called Lyons Ave and when I saw it one day leaving an appointment I nonchalantly asked my husband “what if we name him Lyon?” after the words came out of my mouth, something inside of me quickened…my husband liked the idea, but it took him a little longer to embrace such a unique name. After doing some more research behind the spelling, and symbolism, we decided it was the one. Reply Dani Apr 9 at 1:16 pm I named my son Lyon in very much the same way. We live across the street from the library & there was a plaque with the name William Lyon Mackenzie King on it, and the whole pregnancy my husband only liked William, which wasn’t for me, but upon seeing the sign, I thought if not William, why not Lyon? I loved the name from the instant it entered my mind, though it took the parents & my husband some warming up to, even after he was born my husband hesitated! But I am so glad I insisted. It’s a strong & unique, yet classical name. He’s 4 and he loves his name, and I couldn’t imagine him as anyone other than Lyon. Reply Stefano Feb 7 at 9:13 pm Hello, me and my wife are expecting baby boy and we came across this name from the city of Lyon in France. We both love this name but when people in the States read and pronounce it like / lion/ not like /leon/ which would be more like the original pronunciation , we are curious what is your experience with that?
