The conversation normally starts off with hey I am Levon and then they say “oh Lavon,!” To repeat myself with no ,Levon then it’s another conversation about why my mom didn’t put two e’s or why she didn’t capitalize the v. Hey how about I call you Lee or von. Or they can get completely disrespectful and go how about I just call you Lavon anyway it’s easier for me. Now I completely embrace my name. As a Leo Rising I think it’s fit that my name means lion. I fit all the characteristics of the Leo and lion persona. One day i heard Elton John’s song, Levon, and thought, hey! That may be it. Turns out it means the same as Leon and here in Germany us unheard of. So it stuck! Our daughter’s favorite lullaby was a song by The Band and my husband is a musician so naming our little guy “Levon” just felt right. I haven’t come across anyone in person with a little boy with his name. It’s a soft and beautiful name and fits his personality well. Reply samantha May 6 at 2:18 pm We did the same thing! Our son (2010) is named after Levon Helm. Husband also a musician. When I was a young teen I saw The Last Waltz in a theatre and developed a crush on Levon Helm. I always thought of him as a good person. From all accounts he was. Reply Julia Aug 27 at 1:06 pm We are thinking of doing the same thing! My husband absolutely loves Levon Helm. Curious what you did for a nickname? Do you find yourself calling him Levy or Lev? How have other people reacted to the name in general? I find that when I tell people we are thinking of this name, most people have never even heard of The Band. It doesn’t really bother me, just makes it more unique! Reply Levon May 29 at 5:49 pm I love that that’s such a beautiful story Reply Patricia Renfroe Jul 22 at 10:12 am Just named my Catahoula Leopard pup Levon Helm! Reply Natalie Feb 24 at 11:53 pm Levon (pronounced LeeVaugn) is baby A, and named after Levon Helm from The Band…musician. I delivered at 34 weeks and although I was begging in mind and out loud to have them, I was awfully surprised they came a month early and delivered by c-section and wasn’t able to hold them physically for a week. Reply Lisa Murphy Jan 6 at 11:16 am It’s an Elton John song and I’ve always loved it. Also you usually hear “Levi” and I really prefer names that aren’t so popular. Reply Michelle Aug 17 at 9:05 pm We chose the name Levon Henry. Levon after Levon Helm, drummer from The Band and solo musician. My husband is a musician and Levon Helm and The Band were huge influences in his musical career. His middle name is Henry after my husbands grandfather shoe passed away several years ago.
