48 Week Old Baby Development

Is baby… walking?! And why it’s time to get out and explore the great outdoors.

  • 48 Week Old Baby Milestones 👶

He’s getting closer and closer to that one year mark (hooray!), and his muscle development is maturing as well. You know what this means? Your baby will be walking soon! If he’s already taken his first steps, he may even be getting closer to walking with more confidence and ease. As his muscles continue to strengthen and mature even more, walking will become second nature to him! Are you ready to chase that (soon-to-be) toddler around yet, mama?

With this growth and maturation of his gross motor development comes more agility with his fine motor development. Feeding himself may now come with more ease (meaning fewer spills on the floor!) This doesn't mean he won’t enjoy exploring with his food from time to time, but his self-feeding skills are improving. If you haven’t done so already, now may be a great time to introduce a cup (and cutting out that bottle!). Did you know pediatricians now recommend phasing out bottles around 12 months of age? Here are some great options to consider for baby’s first drinking cup:

    • This stainless steel 360 sippy cup works great for baby’s first ‘sippy’ cup, as it is vacuumed sealed for little to no spills.
    • These kid-friendly stainless steel cups are open-ended and can help your little one practice the art of drinking from a traditional cup.
    • When you’re on the go, this vacuum sealed sippy thermos (with attached lid) is a great option.

It may not be quite time to say adios to that bottle yet, but the more you prepare yourself and your little one, the easier the transition will be when the time comes!

You may find that now is a great time to explore the great outdoors and spend some time connecting with nature. Not only can the time spent outside be engaging and interactive for baby, but it can also be therapeutic for mama, helping to quiet that inner noise and de-stress! Here are a few ideas to get outdoors, and reconnect with mother nature:

    • Plan a family camping trip: Now that your little one has developed a more consistent sleep pattern, it may be easier to sneak away for a quick overnighter (or two!).
    • Forest bathing: We’ve talked about the importance of mama getting out into nature to help relax and de-stress. But what about making it a family event? This can be so great for your baby as well. It not only expands his horizons, but also may even help him sleep better at night. Win-win!
    • Take a hike: Not only can this help get your family outdoors and back into nature, but it’s a great way to get that heart rate up, too.

We can’t stress the importance of getting outside and reconnecting with our beautiful mother earth enough. The great outdoors does wonders for your mental and physical health, mama!
