When did you realize you were really in labor?
I felt contractions just before midnight. After a while, I felt like I needed to poo. I went to the toilet and saw blood.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Being a first-time mom, I really didn't know what to expect. I didn't know how painful it was going to be, how long the labor would take and if I have what it takes to get through it without interventions. I really had to prepare physically, mentally and emotionally so that I could have the birth I wanted. And I had to be CONSISTENT too... even when it was just easier to lie in bed.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I did a lot of things to prepare. I researched, exercised, meditated, ate dates, drank red raspberry leaf tea, etc. All these things helped me a lot. But I think a key factor is having the right birth team. I cannot stress how important it is to be surrounded by people who will support you and help you have that natural birth.

What surprised you about your birth?
It was intense but actually fairly easy and short (compared to my expectations). I guess all that work paid off! I was only in labor for about 9 hours, about 4 hours of which, I spent sleeping. I didn't even have to push. I thought this was going to be the hardest part but my baby just came out flying! Good thing my doctor was able to catch him on time!

If there's a will there's a way! Aside from preparing your body, just purpose it in your heart and trust God to do the rest!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I spent a lot of time in the shower! It worked wonders!
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I gave birth lying on my back.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I have imagined that moment more times than I can count. But when the time came, there's really nothing like it. I couldn't believe that this tiny person came from me. All I could do was cuddle and stare at my him and thank the Lord for such a blessing.
