When did you realize you were really in labor?
I was having pressure/cramps for a few weeks but nothing consistent or in waves. Since I was 5 days late everyone told me to eat Indian food to induce labor. After dinner that night the pressure waves began in a pattern and I was pretty sure birthing time was beginning and it was.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Other than reading Mama Natural every week I used hypnobabies and birthing from within as my tools to get through a natural birth.

What surprised you about your birth?
How instictional your body is. It knew exactly what it needed to do for birthing.

There were a surge of emotions that cannot be put into words. The relief, the love, the blood, sweat, and tears on creating the miracle of life. It really is incredible.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
For the early labor I used the hypnobirthing techniques I learned. Active labor was a little more challenging as I had to mentally focus through each wave.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I caught my baby at home in the water on my hands and knees with orange dim lighting all around me

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
There were a surge of emotions that cannot be put into words. The relief, the love, the blood, sweat, and tears on creating the miracle of life. It really is incredible.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Find tools that work for you. Although it’s extremely intense it’s a lot of mental focus. Staying calm and breathing through each wave. Hypnobabies was my go to throughout pregnancy. I also had a doula for emotional support and my husband as my birth partner. I believe a great birthing team and hypnosis is what got me through it.
