When did you realize you were really in labor?
Close to 11 pm on Tuesday. I had been having contractions most of the evening and they felt stronger than the Braxton Hicks I had been experiencing for the last month.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The BACK LABOR! Definitely the most difficult and challenging but once it was all said and done I felt so strong and accomplished.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I reminded myself over and over that God had made my body to do this and that I could. I know my mindset had everything to do with my choosing a home birth and I wasn't going to back down even if I was in a lot of pain.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
The surprising thing about my birth was that I did it. I pushed a human being out of me and my husband never left my side! He was such a great support along with my aunt and my midwife team. Hindsight is 20/20 so yes there are somethings I might do differently next time around but I learned so much about myself and my other half.

Go natural and enjoy the most wonderful crazy ride of your life. In the end, its all worth it.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Relaxing was the best pain relief. Just drifting into a song and thinking about the words instead of the pain. If I really think about it the back labor was not something I could get away from so distracting myself or resting were the best ways to get some relief.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I delivered our son on my back. Not my first choice and I don't recommend it but it happened nonetheless. It won't happen again I can promise you that!
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Holding my son in my arms for the first time was priceless. I will always remember his precious body snuggling into me and that new baby scent. Just a sweet and precious dream that truly came to life!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
If you want to go natural, go for it! You are strong and you can do it. The choice is yours. Don't be afraid of others opinions, they can say what they want but this is your choice on how you want to birth your baby. Go natural and enjoy the most wonderful crazy ride of your life. In the end, its all worth it.
