What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
My biggest inspiration has always been Rocky, so I️ made a collage of quotes and pictures from the movie along with some birth affirmations to bring to the birth center. Looking at that during labor gave me the inspiration and determination I️ needed
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I️ was surprised both by the intensity of the pain and the intensity of my husband’s love and support for me through it all. I️ couldn’t have done it without him!
-
My husband and I️ both cried and were full of so much joy and relief that he was okay. I️ felt so proud of myself that I had birthed my baby and done it all natural!
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Closing my eyes and breathing/moaning through contractions and being in the warm water of the birthing tub.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I️ labored and pushed in the birthing tub up until the very last part, where the baby’s heart rate began to drop so I️ had to get out quickly and lay down on my back on the bed, my husband holding one knee up and my midwife holding the other. I gave a final 2 intense pushes and he was out!

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
My husband and I️ both cried and were full of so much joy and relief that he was okay. I️ felt so proud of myself that I had birthed my baby and done it all natural!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
You can do it! Just keep breathing through the pain and know it will all be so worth it when you hold your precious baby!
