Birth Stories

Midwifery Care Helped Heather Achieve Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

My waters broke but contractions didn’t start right away. I had bouts of exhausting, intense prodromal labor for 5 weeks before the day she was born so even after a gush of amniotic fluid, I still didn’t trust my instincts and remained in denial until I was pretty heavily in active labor.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Overcoming close family’s feelings about my safety.

  • What pain relief strategies worked best?
