Educating Herself And Meditating Helped Zakia During Her Natural Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    It really hit me that I was in labor when my water broke and I was being rushed to the hospital.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    The most challenging thing about going natural was remaining confident in myself and blocking out negative people and thoughts. Basically staying in control as my nurse said to me the entire time. She was great.

    The most helpful thing I did to prepare for childbirth was read to educate myself and meditate. Basically listening to positive messages about birth but being realistic with myself about birth and what was to come.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    The lack of pain and the fact that I was able to sleep through my contractions during active labor. I didn't think it would be so manageable.

  • Holding my son was the most exhilarating and unreal moments I've experienced. It was amazing to see his face.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    The best pain relief was breathing and letting the pain wash over me.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    I delivered in the standard position they have you deliver in the hospital. I was on my back.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Holding my son was the most exhilarating and unreal moments I've experienced. It was amazing to see his face.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    For those wanting to go natural stay in control and breath. If you let the pain wash over you and just give in, the pain basically is nonexistent.
