When did you realize you were really in labor?
About 4 hours after pitocin started. I was fine and doing well coping on my own, then a switch just flipped and I needed my husband to help me.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Pitocin contractions were really difficult to deal with... that's how I ended up with the epidural. When they are coming every minute and 45 seconds, and a minute long, it's really hard to keep your cool.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Bradley Method Birth Classes really helped me and my husband be informed and involved in decisions, which was especially useful with induction. They also helped my husband be really involved and educated about the birth process.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised at how well I could cope. Even when I was getting to the end of my rope, my midwife and nurse were surprised at how well I was doing.

Prepare your body, mind, and birth plan, but don't kick yourself if things don't turn out. You and baby being healthy are what matters most.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Swaying, low moaning, and having my husband hold my belly during contractions worked best.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I started out pushing on my side, due to baby having large declarations in heart rate, but as we got closer, she tolerated me on my back much better, and I was able to push more efficiently.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
After suffering a very early loss last year, then being over due by 10 days, having her in my arms felt so surreal.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Prepare your body, mind, and birth plan, but don't kick yourself if things don't turn out. You and baby being healthy are what matters most.
