When did you realize you were really in labor?

I went in to see the midwives for routine 39 weeks appointment to learn that my blood pressure was through the roof and there was a large amount of protein in my urine. I never had issues with this up until this point. I was immediately admitted and diagnosed with preeclampsia. They tried to induce labor but with each try, my daughter's heart rate dropped consistently as contractions intensified. She was in distress so we had to do cesarean. My OR team was AMAZING. My husband was with me through the entire surgery. We birthed a beautiful and healthy 7 lb baby girl.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The most challenging thing was the realizing that I could not have a natural birth due to unforeseen complications. I planned and prepared for months, took classes, researched etc so I was a bit disappointed when my dream of a natural birth went out the window. Things happened the way they are supposed to. I believe that my baby came into the world the way the universe intended.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Took a hypnobabies course. I used hypnobabies to get through pressure waves during my induction and during the surgery. Love the program and I know I would not have been as calm and prepared without it.

What surprised you about your birth?

How quickly things can change!

What pain relief strategies worked best?

Hypnobabies "relax" and "Peace" cues.

What position did you end up delivering in?

Cesarean section

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Immediate relief
