When did you realize you were really in labor?
I knew I was in labor after my water broke. I was sitting on the couch watching TV. After my water broke I started having contractions. They felt like heavy mentrual Cramps. I was also leaking nonstop!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The pain was obviously a challenge, but I never doubted myself. I felt confident that my body could handle it and I wanted to be physically present for every bit of it.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I had a doula who was amazing and helped me advocate for what I wanted in the delivery room. I felt confident with her ability to help with pain management, which was honestly a big fear of mine. My husband and I also talked a lot beforehand with what we would do in different scenarios and what I felt I would need in the delivery room. I also picked a handful of positive birth affirmations that I would say out loud while I was in labor. Some ones that works for me were: "I can do this" and "My body was made to do this".

What surprised you about your birth?
After all was said and done, I was so proud of myself! The next day I thought " I could do this again, no problem". That definitely surprised me!

Make sure you include supportive people in your delivery room. Also knowing a handful positive affirmations can really help with any labor anxiety. And most importantly, it's totally worth it!!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
The hot shower sprayed on my lower back, having wet, hot towels pressed on my lower back and hip squeezes with the rebozzo band helped.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I tried using the squat bar but it wasn't cooperating and laying on my back with my legs pulled back felt pretty good so I just went with it and it worked just fine!
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was so sweet. I felt so much love and so happy.
