When did you realize you were really in labor?
I realized I was in labor when I could no longer talk or walk through the contractions. They were around 3-6 minutes apart at this point.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
This birth, I felt the need to push, but it was just my water. After my water broke, I had to labor baby down all over again. It didn't take too long, thank goodness, but it was a little discouraging in the moment.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
With my first three births I had practiced relaxation techniques beforehand, following the hypnobirthing method. Super helpful! Unfortunately, I didn't practice them this time and I wasn't in the right mindset when labor got really intense. Should we have another, I will definitely be preparing ahead of time!

What surprised you about your birth?
Really, how fast she came. She was baby number four for me, and I have had quick labors in the past, but it still surprised me that I wasn't in labor one minute and then a mere 4 hours later I was holding her in my arms.

Your body was made to do this. I recommend getting regular chiropractic care throughout pregnancy to ensure baby has enough room to move around the way she needs to to make her way into this world.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
In the past, hypnobirthing relaxation techniques were supremely beneficial. This time, remembering it would be temporary was what got me through.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I labored in a birthing tub on my knees, but when it came time to push, I was almost floating on my back.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Almost beyond explanation. I was elated and extremely grateful to know she was healthy and crying.
