Spinning Babies Helped Lynn The Most During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

When my contractions were more consistent. also, I had some bloody show. I had been having prodromal labor for a few days so it was exciting when it started to get more intense.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The pain at the end was almost unbearable. Pushing actually felt awesome, even though it burned.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I did practice some hypnobirthing which helped in early labor but it was really hard to just breathe when I was in transition. I did the low growl/moaning which helped some. I also did spinning babies. I think this was the most helpful to get baby into position.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How fast it was this time around! My first I was in labor for Around 57 hours. His head was posterior and they didnt realize towards the end. This time around I was only in active labor for 3-4 hours. Sooo much better. I owe most of that to spinning babies, I think.

  • You can do it. You can. Your body was made to do this and it's beautiful.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

My husband and midwife did counter pressure on my lower back and that helped for a while. At the end nothing helped but thrashing around like a wild animal haha. I think I was dilated to a 10 at that point. Also, once I got into the birthing pool I didn't have a contraction for about 3 minutes. It was amazing.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

I started pushing on my hands and knees but ended up pushing better sitting up with my husband supporting my back.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

So so so sweet. Almost unreal. He felt like a squishy circus peanut. I couldn't stop kissing him over and over.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

I'd say the most practical help for me is completely putting the idea of pain relief out of your head. It doesn't exist. That helped me a lot. Not that you're not as strong if you do get pain relief because the pain is astronomical, but if you'd like to push past the pain and experience the surges this might help. Also, do as much preparing mentally as you can. Transition/pushing is a mind game and your mind will play tricks on you. I felt many times it wouldn't ever be over but it will and it will be glorious!!!! You can do it. You can. Your body was made to do this and it's beautiful.
