When did you realize you were really in labor?
Early on the morning of Mother's Day. Every thirty or so minutes I would wake up and it felt like I was going to get my period really bad.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
My water didn't break until 9cm. The contractions were already intense but this was a game changer. The anticipation of the next contraction and making it through was a challenge. I also didn't think I would puke or feel nauseous and I did, which made it even more challenging.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Working out at least five days every week during pregnancy really made a difference. I also walked two to four miles every day depending on how I felt that day. As a previous runner, I know walking really helped maintain my fitness level.

What surprised you about your birth?
Feeling everything was an out of this world experience. I felt my daughter's head just outside of me and her little hands, all waiting to come into the world. I have never felt so alive and I wouldn't change a thing.

You can do this. You got this! It is a challenge but believe in yourself and your body. Be steadfast and determined. This is one of the most amazing experiences you can allow yourself to have!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Prayer, deep breathing and determination

What position did you end up delivering in?
Laying back at an angle my husband held one leg and my sister the other.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Holding my little girl for the first time I felt complete and overwhelmed.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
You can do this. You got this! It is a challenge but believe in yourself and your body. Be steadfast and determined. This is one of the most amazing experiences you can allow yourself to have!
