When did you realize you were really in labor?
It was not until I was driving home from the nail salon, after having what I thought was Braxton Hicks for four hours, did I realize I was in labor. My contractions had been 3-6 minutes apart that entire time. About the time I got home I lost my mucus plug so I knew it was happening soon.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing was not listening to naysayers. As a first time mom I got some discouraging comments from strangers and sometimes family. It did make me second guess myself at times but I knew this was the best decision for myself and my baby.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Read and watch lots of videos. I read lots of stories from moms that went natural and that was very very helpful for me.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How much birth is mind over matter. Having the correct mindset allows you to let go and work with your body.
-
Trust your body. Trust your baby. Develop a good support system, whether in person or online. Give yourself permission to ask for help and let go.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Being able to labor in whatever position I chose was helpful. I thought that certain positions would be comfortable but while in labor they weren't. Also focusing on breathing through each contraction made them more bearable.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I delivered sitting in a birthing pool.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was indescribable. I just couldn't believe I worked so hard to get her out and then all of a sudden there she was looking up at me.
