Birth Stories

Relaxing Helped Chrislyn During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

When my water broke. Up until then, the contractions I was having, though clearly not Braxton Hicks in retrospect, were not consistent enough to be considered true active labor.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Training my mind to expect the pain. I had wanted a natural birth where I could move around, and luckily I did most of my laboring at home.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Relax as much as you can and keep yourself hydrated.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How fast it was!! It was two hours from when my water broke to delivery.

  • Trust your instincts and stand up for yourself. No one can force you to do things you don't want to do.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Breathing and focusing on other things.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Laying on my back in the bed.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Absolutely magical. I was amazed that this perfect little human came out of me in such a natural, beautiful way.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Trust your instincts and stand up for yourself. No one can force you to do things you don't want to do.
