Keeping Herself Healthy Helped Jayleen During Her C-section Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I didn't go into labor on my own. After a lot of consideration, we chose to have a repeat c-section. The risks for me and our babies were too great to attempt a "natural" delivery.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Not going "natural". Several people have expressed how sad it is that we didn't get to have our twins the "right way".

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Keeping myself healthy for the long recovery and arranging for extra help at home.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How fast it was! Babies were born 1 minute apart!

  • Do the best you can towards that goal, but don't beat yourself up if circumstances change and you end up needing more medical intervention. Take it one step, in decision at a time.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Spinal

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Typical for C-section.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Amazing!! Even though we had a c-section I was able to do skin to skin immediately and we nursed in the OR as well.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Do the best you can towards that goal, but don't beat yourself up if circumstances change and you end up needing more medical intervention. Take it one step, in decision at a time.
