When did you realize you were really in labor?
Labour started within minutes of my midwife breaking my water.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing about going with a natural birth was actually having to defend my choices to the critical people and knowing there was risk of having to deal with hospital staff if we were to have to transfer to hospital.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Mentally prepare myself to trust my body and my midwives!

What surprised you about your birth?
It was so peaceful, serene, straightforward and amazing.

Trust yourself. Your body knows what to do far better than your brain. Stay out of your body's way and let it be the powerful birthing machine it has the capability to be.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Breathing through my contractions with a low hum and relaxed jaw was all I needed to focus and stay in the zone. Getting in the tub felt incredible too.

What position did you end up delivering in?
Semi-squatting in the tub.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It's always the most incredible moment of pure joy, connection and love.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Trust yourself. Your body knows what to do far better than your brain. Stay out of your body's way and let it be the powerful birthing machine it has the capability to be. On top of that, search out the right midwife for you and build a great relationship of trust and understanding.
