What surprised you about your birth?
He biggest surprise about the birth of my 3rd son was his quick it went at the end! I had the nurse check me before getting into the tub and I was dilated to a 4. She checked again about 45 minutes and I was only at a 6. About 15 minutes later I felt the urge to push so I jumped out of the tub and headed to the birthing bed. I told my husband I really needed to push and he said "I don't think you can yet". I replied "oh yes I can and I am going to!" My OBGYN came in after the head was already out! The last 20 minutes of labor and pushing was just crazy fast!!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
The pain relief came from deep relaxation ad from my husband massaging essential oil blends into my lower back where most of the pressure was. The co reactions weren't too bad for most of my labor. Once they got stronger I got into a warm bath tub, which seems to make the contractions less painful. I think because I could stay relaxed that I progressed quickly through labor. It was only 8 hours from the time my water broke to delivery, and the contractions were mild for about 6 of the & hours of labor.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I ended up delivering reclined on my back. I went from being dilated to a 6 to pushing in under 20 minutes, so I just jumped into the bed and leaned back and started pushing. My OBGYN joined the party after the head was already out!
