When did you realize you were really in labor?
When I got into bed for the night, I felt a small gush of water. I still wasn't sure it was actually my water breaking but by 2am I was having pretty strong contractions.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I was excited to have a natural birth, I was more nervous about the expectations of those around me at home. My 3 older children were very excited to be there and I wanted to make sure it was a beautiful experience for everyone.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I read lots of positive birth stories, watched hypno birth birth videos and I studied and practiced hypnobirthing.

What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised that I didn't really experience pain. I kept doubting that I was in labor because it didn't feel unbearable. Only that last 2 minutes were super intense and then it was over.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Breathing and relaxing my body would greatly ease the pressure. Getting into the birth tub felt amazing at the end!

What position did you end up delivering in?
I delivered in a somewhat reclined position in a birth tub.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Amazing and surreal! I couldn't believe I did it!
