When did you realize you were really in labor?
I was induced at 41 weeks as I was going for a vaginal delivery after 2 c-sections. It really hit me when I was about 6cms and contractions were strong to the point where I really had to close my eyes and just focus on breathing through them.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I had low blood platelets so I was not eligible for an epidural. I didn't want one in the first place but when they started the induction process I wasn't dilated at all and that made me nervous that it could take 2 or 3 days!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I got a doula! Best money spent. She was nice to talk to prior to labor but she was vital when contractions started getting to the point where I was losing focus and didn't know how much more I could take.

What surprised you about your birth?
I did it! There were aa lot of cards stacked against me but thankfully when push came to shove the drs with me were very supportive and kept reminding me that I deserve this natural delivery!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
My doula would remind me to breath and try to relax my face and neck. In the beginning music helped me tune out but in the end it was just focusing on breathing long breaths and blowing the contraction away. It was helpful thay the doula would tell me ok were peaking, blow it away, then i new it was over.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I was in the traditional on my back. I thought I would want to be on all fours and then realized that for me that was one of the most painful positions. Additionally they needed to use a vacuum assist at the very end so on my back was the only option.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was amazing. In both my csections I was completely under so I didnt get to hear their first crys or see them when they came out. I couldnt help but cry tears of joy and relief.
