When did you realize you were really in labor?
10:30 pm on January 30. The first contraction was strong and the next was 20 minutes later... but that didn't last long ! The third was just 8 minutes after.. and they came closer and closer each time, 5.5 hours total!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The contractions! Everything went so quickly that it was so hard to focus on breathing and redirecting my focus. 2 hours after the first contraction, they were already coming every minute with less than 20 seconds rest.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Practice!!! My husband went through the natural birthing class with me, which we did at home. We went over everything over and over.. he was my rock throughout!

What surprised you about your birth?
The speed! From the first contraction to holding my little man was only 5.5 hours! Less than 30 minutes of pushing. And it was surprisingly so much easier than I'd ever thought it would be!

Believe in yourself.. trust your body and trust your baby! Don't go in with the mindset "I'll try and if I need the meds I'll get them" you have to believe in yourself and your ability to make it through ! Having the support from a great birth team is crucial! Just when you think you can't go any further, that is when your baby is coming !!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Breathing.. my doula had to keep reminding me though!

What position did you end up delivering in?
Started on hands and knees against the birth ball, ended in a reclined position, pulling back on my knees.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Amazing! There are no words for that moment!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Believe in yourself.. trust your body and trust your baby! Don't go in with the mindset "I'll try and if I need the meds I'll get them" you have to believe in yourself and your ability to make it through ! Having the support from a great birth team is crucial! Just when you think you can't go any further, that is when your baby is coming !!
