Doing Belly Mapping To Make Sure Baby Was In Position Helped Patricia During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I started having contractions Saturday morning so by evening (even though they were still far apart) when they were still coming I knew it was the real thing.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Being my fourth child I knew what to expect so I guess the challenging part was to remember to relax my whole body when the contractions start getting really strong.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I read a lot of blog posts on other ladies experiences and their tips for an easier natural birth. I did belly mapping to make sure baby was in position. I practiced deep breathing and I also drank red raspberry leaf tea my last trimester and saw a huge difference.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

I read an article about breathing baby out and decided to try it. I was amazed at how the deep breathing made a huge difference during delivery. The nurses barely made it in the room in time and the doctor arrived a minute later. They all told me I should be teaching a child birth class lol

  • Do belly mapping to make sure baby is in the best position. Do a lot of research on natural childbirth so you know what to expect and what you want to use as pain managements and don't let pain medicine be an option in your mind. Remembering to relax your body will be the best thing you can do.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Definitely the deep breathing...breathing in for a few seconds and breathing down slowly instead of out through my mouth while envisioning baby moving down. Relaxing my body including my jawl. Going over scripture and remembering to take one contraction at a time.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

On my back. I wanted to try a different position this time but when I got to the hospital and was already 9 centimeters I just wanted to lay and concentrate on getting through each contraction.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Beautiful! Overwhelming! I rush of relief!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
