When did you realize you were really in labor?
When I finally started timing the contractions and they were 4-5 minutes apart lasting 60 seconds. Then I lost some of my mucus plug.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Everyone worrying about me thinking I have no idea what I'm doing. Also, getting through all the books I wanted to to be as educated as I could about labor.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Talking to my midwives and friend/doula to help me understand what will probably happen; answering my questions. Listening to the listening to birth affirmations before and during labor helped too.

What surprised you about your birth?
The contractions just felt like menstrual cramps at first. How hard, but manageable pushing was.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Relaxing my muscles and ignoring the contractions at the beginning. Then slow dancing with my midwife and swaying.

In bed, holding my legs back

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Surreal. I couldn't believe I could have pushed his big head out! But he's finally here!
