When did you realize you were really in labor?
I realized I was in labor around 5:30pm before it was actually "active labor". I was having contractions but they were still about 10 minutes apart. I decided I was going to have to hurry up and cook supper for my other 5 girls!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
This was my 6th natural birthing experience, and my 3rd home birth. We had a midwife for this one and she was very helpful. But I'm telling you, every time "it's time!" I get nervous. You would think I'd know by now that my body can handle it, but I still ALWAYS get nervous!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I'm not sure you are ever 100% prepared, but I know planning, gathering your supplies, and finding something else to focus on during labor (besides the labor pain) are very important things to do.

What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised at how well focus affects the pain. Pain management is literally mind over matter. Don't think about how bad it hurts and it doesn't seem to hurt as bad.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Focus, breathing, and a great doula work best!

What position did you end up delivering in?
I delivered laying on my side which was surprisingly great!

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Even though she was my 6th baby, it was still the best feeling to hold my sweet girl for the first time!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Your body was designed to do it. Do not let anyone make you doubt that! You CAN do it! Be strong, and don't give up!
