Switching From Doctor to Midwife Helped LeeAnna During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    I got into a bath to relax, I had random contractions all day and I was tired. As soon as i got into the tub the contractions came regularly and didn't stop.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    What I struggle with is a fear of the doctors and the hospitals. I don't want to be put in the system. We're always told scary things about labor from hospitals and doctors, it's like they scare us to try to control us.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    I changed from my usual family practice doctor to a midwife. I had peace as soon as i made the switch.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    We were all surprised by how fast everything went. My midwife didn't make it in time, and my doula got to catch.

  • Believe you can do it. If you don't believe in yourself how can others?
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    I rocked back and forth while i moaned through each contraction. My husband calls it the mom song.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    I was between standing and a squat, my husband was holding me up.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    I was so glad that labor was over.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    Believe you can do it. If you don't believe in yourself how can others?
