When did you realize you were really in labor?
When I could no longer ignore the contractions. They started at 6:30am but I figured it was Braxton Hicks since I wasn't due for another week. I actually went and got my nails done that morning during light contractions! Then at about 4:30pm my husband and I realized this could be real.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The length of my labor. I was stuck at 7cm for 12 hours and they almost transferred me to the hospital, but I started doing everything I could to get the contractions back to back. Some of my contractions were 2 or 3 minutes long and beyond anything I could have ever imagined in regard to pain.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Praying to God and trusting in His plan. I was incredibly fearful of giving birth, but once I fully surrendered to Him, He took away my fear. I reminded myself of His love for me and this baby, that He created me for this very purpose, and that He is always faithful.

What surprised you about your birth?
How long it lasted... A total of 29 hours. I never thought this baby was coming out. Also... I was surprised by how amazing I felt right after my baby was born!

There are no words to describe that moment. I was instantly in love, instantly! And I looked over at my husband who was crying (he never cries!) and it all felt so surreal. I was so happy to FINALLY meet my baby. God is so good!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Singing worship music and having my hips squeezed during contractions. (I had some serious back labor the entire time).
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
On my back.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
There are no words to describe that moment. I was instantly in love, instantly! And I looked over at my husband who was crying (he never cries!) and it all felt so surreal. I was so happy to FINALLY meet my baby. God is so good!

How did the Mama Natural Birth Class help you in your childbirth?
Be prepared. This course was an unbelievable resource for my husband and I. Also... have faith in the power of Jesus. It provided so much comfort knowing that I didn't have to do anything in my own strength. Anytime I took my eyes off of Him I felt overwhelmed. But as soon as I reminded myself that God already knew exactly how this would play out, I stopped worrying and let Him take control. And lastly, no matter how bad it gets, stick to your plan knowing you'll see your baby soon. You won't regret it!
